MPAD’s role was to establish design themes for both parks that reflected the Maori tales that formed part of the design brief. The designs were accompanied by sketches and concept plans to illustrate how the arrangement of the individual pieces would function together and integrate with the surrounding reserve areas.
The playgrounds have since been developed and now provide a focal point along the coastal reserve areas for people to meet and children to play. The collaboration between Playground Centre and MPAD produced a successful tender submission and ultimate outcome for the Whangarei community.
