The town centre includes offices, retail, civic uses, childcare, a motel and supermarket as well as medium-density residential units. A large marketplace, and other smaller public areas tie the space together and provide for public interaction and enjoyment. The mixture of uses will allow the town centre to become a destination for the immediate and greater environment, making Ōmokoroa an attractive place to live in and visit.
MPAD completed the original design of the town centre masterplan which was refined and detailed by First Principles Architects. MPAD then prepared the landscape masterplan to support the resource consent. The town centre’s spatial configuration and modern design takes advantage of the site contour and green network, which was further enhanced through the landscape design. Following public notification, resource consent for the town centre was granted by appointed Commissioners in May 2021.
